Smooth Koi with Ivorite
I love the blowfish shape. Always have. It was the shape that made me fall in love with pipemaking, a la Toku, Gotoh, Gracik, Johnson, etc. But the shape seems to have fallen out of fashion, so I’m re-branding it: Koi. Graceful, full bodied, simple.
Over the last several years, I’ve developed a methodology for shaping this class of pipe that involves only one continuous line around the pipe, completely unbroken. This pipe is no different: it has a fully continuous ridge that runs around the pipe, with a spin-off line that fades away on the smaller side. The delicate ivorite split-stem saddle sets off the dark stain beautifully.
