When I first opened the tin, I was getting tropical fruit punch in my nose. Maybe a little apple, some pear, but I'm also getting something more exotic like bananas/pineapple.

I'm getting a tiny sour note on lighting the bowl, little citrusy, I think it's Sichuan peppercorn. Random. It's getting darker and smokier now, vinegar BBQ sauce vibes. Meaty flavors, but ith undertones of slightly overcooked gingerbread cookies. Getting thinner now, slightly acrid, ribs on the smoker. Highly recommend for those of you who like smoking meats.

Figgy, bready, summer naps. Tin notes are definitely forest floor in late summer smells. The smoke itself has lots of the bready flavors you associate with Virginia's, but the perique is the star of this blend. Leather and spice. An easy to smoke blend, but very full flavored. Very nicotine, please beware! The musty, delicious perique flavors grow stronger through the bowl. Black pepper coming on strong at the end. Not for the faint of heart, but faint heart never won fair lady.

It was so great to see everyone yesterday at the show! Even though my time was short, I always treasure it with you. I did not come home with any pipes. Except a gift from my @zhangguohui1551 and @pzhanpipes . In Chicago this spring we began to collaborate, and they took a couple pipes from me as models. When they handed me this pipe, I thought they were handing me the original. But it's a replica! That's how good it is. It will be coming soon to a retailer near you.

A few months ago, I bought some blocks from Steve

A few months ago, I bought some blocks from Steve Norse @vermontfreehand that JT Cooke had made available on his retirement. This block is the first of the batch, and these pictures take you through the process of making the pipe. I didn't do anything "extra" to make the blast better, but I did spend a lot of time in the blasting cabinet, since the block was dense. I'm really pleased with the blast, and although the pipe is not a JT Cooke shape, I do think it honors his work. I will be stamping these blocks "JT" until they're gone. Tin notes are floral and honey. I did let this tin get a little dry before doing the review, so I apologize for the low quality. I think I taste some dates. The tobacco starts a little thin, and comes into a fuller taste towards the mid bowl. Besides the base of red Virginia, there's the spices of the Oriental leaf, maybe a touch of nutmeg. Again, I left it too long, and it's dry, but still tasty. This is a tobacco that I could smoke a LOT of, if I didn't have to cut it from the cube :)

I might need to get another tin and do a proper job. I really just smoked this one away until it was almost gone, and then remembered to do a review. Alas.

Tin notes: chocolate, cherry, brandy, a touch of leather. As the tin dried out a little and got towards the bottom, the latakia leather and smoke notes came out much more in the aroma. Velvety mouth feel. Those brandied cherries come out in the first parts of the bowl. Gets a little spicier as you go down, but it's pretty one dimensional, only little hints of the latakia come through towards the end. Can confirm the latakia comes out stronger at the end, but still not overpowering, and lots of brandy.

When you open it up, it smells very sweet, like raisins and Brandy. Rum raisin flavors on lighting, mellowing out as the bowl goes down. This tobacco seems fairly straightforward, a sweet and bready Virginia. New flavors do emerge as the bowl goes down, but they're very subtle. A little smokiness towards the end. Coffee with cream? Oak? At any rate, it's very enjoyable, and it's no surprise that this is one of the favorites of the pease lineup for most people.

Manzanita is a strange and beautiful bush, purpley-pale striations, hard to work because of cracking. I harvested this myself in the summer of 2021 from somewhere near Yosemite.

Salted Carmel, dried fruit tin notes.
I don't know if it's a psychological effect from knowing that there's Oriental tobaccos in it, but there are spice notes that remind me of the smell of Asia (I've been there, so no hate). Buttery, I almost think that there's some very mild crab flavor, maybe I'm crazy. Definitely a little salt. Croissant with…pine nuts towards the end? Something is a little piney. What a cool tobacco

Tin note: Caramel and smoke. Maybe some dried cherries and raisins. Obviously this blend is strong and the Kentucky dark fireds add a lot of depth and richness, but if you pay attention there's a lot of fruit here. Toward the beginning of the bowl there's some tartness like a plum picked just too soon, tart cherries or blackberries. As we move down the bowl, things sweeten though: cooked fruits begin to dominate, notes of apples and pears. A classic tobacco, very satisfying, but watch the nicotine content!
